I don't know if you've seen the shirts, the videos, or read the stories about this... this movement? if thats the right word for it. But it's something that is touching my heart like nothing else has since Invisible Children. One word of caution, and this is for the uptight people who will throw a fit about this, in the video or story, there is a "bad word". A girl carved something in her arm, and in the video, they say what she carved. And yes, it's a curse word. *gasp* This is something that has been ignored, overlooked, imitated, and somehow at the same time exaggerated... cutting teens are doing it at an alarming rate, while many teens are claiming to do it, and not doing it in reality. It's something that we need to take note of nonetheless. The guys who started the "To Write Love On Her Arms" are taking this by force and are not taking it laying down. I encourage anyone who reads this to go to their pages, either www.twloha.com or their myspace page www.myspace.com/towriteloveonherarms. If you're someone who struggles with this, seek help. Contact these guys, myself, or anyone else that you feel you can trust. Keep Reaching Out, Jpack
| wow... you guys are seriously slacking on comments..
I watched a movie tonight called "Second Chance". It starred Michael W Smith. Normally I'm anti MWS, but tonight changed my thoughts. This movie was amazing. It was definitely eye opening. It's about a pastor working in a LARGE church called "The ROCK" and how they are pretty much a multimillion dollar 'church'. Commercials on TV,... very much like the emerging churches we see all over America today. It was about this congregation and one they planted in the inner city decades ago, but had forgotten. This movie has definitely made me decide to take a closer look at myself and make some changes... hopefully you'll be able to tell as time goes on... I HIGHLY recommend this movie... | Currently Watching The Second Chance By Michael W. Smith, Jeff Obafemi Carr, J. | Have you ever read the account from Luke about how Jesus met Peter, James, and John? I have read it many times over, and it wasn't until this week that I read something that I had never noticed in this passage of Scripture before. I'm sure that you've read Luke 5:1-11 many times. Peter is a fisherman (at this time he's still called Simon). Jesus got into his boat and told him to go into the water, he did. Then Jesus said, cast your nets into the water, even though they had caught nothing all day, he still did. This time, so many fish were in the nets Peter needed help lifting it into the boat. That's usually all of the story that we remember. But when I read thru it this week, something else hit me. What was Simon's reaction to this event? Verse 8 "He fell to his knees in front of Jesus and said, ' Oh Lord, please leave me - I'm too much of a sinner to be around you." Here was Peter, a guy who Jesus had just went fishing with, realizing Jesus was more than just the regular Rabbi. He felt like he could not even be in the presence of Jesus because of the sin that was in his life. This is the same guy that later on was given the keys of the kingdom and was responsible for the first Christian sermon. How many times do we stand in the prescence of God and never feel this type of humbleness? How many times do we experience things in our life that proves to us that Jesus is more than a regular person and still be full of pride? How many times do we say and do things "just for fun" never realizing that God is there with us? He is with us everywhere we go. He does these miracles in our life every single day that we breathe. The fact that you are alive, that you walk, and that you move is a miracle. Why is it that we never fall down before God and admit that we have sin and that we are not worthy to be at the foot of the God who created EVERYTHING? I believe that too many times we expect God to fall down at our feet and say "it's okay (your name here)... it's ok that you drank the other night... it's ok that you slept with your boyfriend... it's ok that you took my name in vain and added curse words to it... " We're never instructed in the Bible to have that kind of attitude. We're told to fall in reverance and humbleness at the foot of God and confess our sins to HIm knowing that He is just and will forgive us our trespasses. I hope to be more like Simon Peter. Sure he messed up in his life (denying Christ at his trial)... but if you notice, even then, he fell down face first and cried and asked God to forgive him. Yeah... I want to be like that.
| so it's been over a week since my last post. i went to a show the other night over in Salem, Ohio. Paul Wright was performing at the First Christian Church there after an outdoor youth challenge thing. I have to say, Paul Wright put on a very awesome show. He wasn't as good live as he is on CD, but still rocked. The opening act was Saved By Grace... a local band from the church. They weren't to shabby either. This Thursday, Janson, Christina, Jenny and myself will be going to Cleveland to hear Rob Bell speak. If you don't know Rob Bell... you're missing out. He's the pastor at the Mars Hill church in Grand Rapids, MI. He is author of "Velvet Elvis: Repainting the Christian faith" and is in the Nooma video series. You've gotta check him out. Anyways, I'm looking forward to the next several weeks. Just saw Paul Wright, going to see Rob Bell, then on August 12th there's an outdoor music festival in Massilion (spelling) that has The Wedding and Last Tuesday at it (two very awesome bands)... then on Sept 4 I'll be going to see possibly one of the best bands out today.... Family Force 5 over in Akron. Inhale Exhale (Brian Pittman formerly of Relient K's new band) will also be there. All this coming off of the Alive festival last month... well... that's a brief look at my life... i know what you're thinking.. WOW justin... how can you contain the excitement that is your life... all i can say.. i manage :) | | |
